Since its inception, DeMolay has expanded its reach across the globe, creating a legacy of nurturing young leaders.

But why is Marietta, Ohio, significant in the DeMolay story? Rufus Putnam, a native of Sutton, Massachusetts, established himself as a prominent figure in the early days of Marietta. Putnam was a highly respected military officer, an influential pioneer, and a dedicated Freemason.

During the late 18th century, Rufus Putnam led a group of veterans from the American Revolutionary War in settling the area now known as Marietta, Ohio. This endeavor marked the first organized American settlement in the Northwest Territory, establishing Marietta as a significant historical landmark.
